Christmas Gift Ideas: Skincare Edition

You know what gets me into the Christmas vibe faster than a Michael Buble’s Christmas album? Well, Christmas shopping of course! In case you’ve somehow missed it, it’s now officially December, snow should be tumbling (if you’re lucky enough) or at lease houses or shopping malls should be beaming with Christmas decorations and you should be busy with some gift wrapping.

Christmas shopping is often a difficult job – as I’ve learn after numerous Secret Santa last minute dash. It’s actually very hard to find the perfect Christmas gift, this is especially true if you don’t know the person too well (especially the case for my Secret Santa/Kris Kringle). So, if you’re someone like me who traditionally needs some help with gift ideas then I might just have the blog for you. Unlike previous years, I actually got my Christmas gifts sorted out already… this year, I’m gifting the gift of year of gifting glowing, youth skin aka SKINCARE!

So let’s just jump into some gift ideas that I wouldn’t mind receiving myself 😉

Innisfree is a brand that I haven’t got much first hand experience with, mostly because it doesn’t sit too well with my oily-combo skin. However, my sister (with dry skin) loves Innisfree, in particular the Innisfree’s Green Tea Seed Serum. I’ve seen the serum help transform her dry flaky skin to a smooth and supple canvas within weeks! This Christmas set is definitely ideal for our dry skin pals. The packaging is dead gorgeous and the set gives them a ‘taste’ of everything. The set comes with the Innisfree’s Green Tea Cleansing Foam (30mL), Innisfree’s The Green tea Seed Serum (80mL) and Innisfree’s The Green Tea Seed Cream(20mL) – pretty much a full basic skincare routine.

I’m going to sound like a broken record, but here goes – Sulwhasoo is honestly my favourite Korean skincare brand (nothing new HAHA)! They are know for they ‘hanbang’ skincare products that are soothing and healing to the skin. This Christmas special gift set contains three of their popular facial masks – The Radiance Energy Mask (30mL) ,Overnight Vitalizing Mask (50ml) and Clarifying Mask (50mL). Sulwhasoo is a high-end Korean Skincare brand so expect some wallet-damage but trust me you’re paying for what you get! Probably a great gift for that someone who always goes above and beyond for you or ones who’ve shouted you too many coffees to count?

Kiehl’s was actually my first ever Skincare brand – the brand focuses of apothecary type products. In other words, their products are simple and effectively without all those unnecessary frills and added fragrances. I particularly enjoy their eye cream and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, plus their Ultimate Strength Hand Salve isn’t too bad either. I found they this pretty cute ‘Disney x Kiehl’s Hydration Essentials’ set that they have in celebration of the coming Christmas season. The Kit includes the Ultimate Strength Hand Salve (30ml), Ultra Facial Cleanser (2.5oz), Ultra Facial Cream (7ml), Lip Balm #1 and the Crème de Corps (2.5oz) at an affordable A $36 price tag! This would be perfect for those new to skincare and just wanted to test out the products before having the full commitment of a full sized product.

Remember the time when all of Trilogy’s Rosehip Oil was flying off the shelves worldwide because The Duchess of Cambridge was said to love it during her pregnancy? Well if it’s good enough for Katherine it’s good enough for us! 😛 This Trilogy Rosehip Radiance Botanical Beauties set is honestly the full packaging! It comes with Trilogy’s Cream Cleanser (30mL), Rosehip Oil Antioxdiant+ (30mL) and Rosapene™ Radiance Serum(30mL). Why not gift the gift of glowing skin this Christmas

So there you have it, basically my Christmas shopping list in a blog! 😉

Enjoy your Christmas shopping my Wonderlandians!

Until next time,

  1. I have a fear of dogs whilst the whole population loves them (I’m very sorry to all the dog lovers out there, the fear wasn’t a choice 😦 ) .
  2. Speaking of fears, I’m petrified of clowns too and this I’m not sorry for!
  3.  I’m always late on trends (i.e I’ve only just jumped onto the Harry Potter bandwagon!) – this is partly because I refuse to give in on the acute hype until I can verify whether or not it deserves it! 😀

Hey Hunnyy

Beth Davies Blog

If you had to only use 3 makeup products for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Oh dear I do hope I can use more than 3 products for the duration of my life (there’s so many cool things out there!;) ) but if I could only pick three then it’ll be Sulwhasoo’s Perfecting Cushion foundation, Maybelline’s Hypersharp eyeliner and Etude House’s Dear Darling Lip tints!

What country do you want to visit and why?

Iceland! I’d love to witness the Northern Lights for myself!

What made you start blogging?

My makeup and skincare stash was growing at an unhealthy rate and I needed to justify my purchases! HAHA . Also because I personally enjoy reading reviews (not necessarily that ones you get underneath products at sites like Sephora you know) but by bloggers who’s joy and passion is in sharing their views on products! So I started my blog basically to add my two cents to this lovely beauty community! 😉

Which actor/actress would you choose to play you in a movie about yourself?

Red Velvet’s Joy because she’s gorgeous and in all honestly looks nothing like me, but I guess she’ll make an enjoyable movie for the masses!

 Most embarrassing moment?

Speaking too quickly at public events and accidentally saying words that I didn’t mean to say!

  1. Your foundation style, cakey or natural?
  2. (Weird question) Is there a makeup technique that you still cannot master and why?
  3. Have you got any great DIY skincare or makeup tips that you swear by?
  4. What is your ultimate favourite makeup/skincare brand and why?
  5. What is the one product you’ve tried this year that you cannot rave enough about?

The blog post that I’m most happy with at the moment would be Skincare for a Starry* Winter Night! – This post not only combines my two favourite subject Skincare & Star gazing but also was a rare post where I got a bit chit chatty! 😀

I believe that concludes it! Once again thank you for the nomination Gabs and I hope you guys will continue to enjoy and find my blog posts useful!

Until next time,

Christmas Special: Winter Angel Makeup Essentials

Michelle Phan for her Angel Baby Makeup Tutorial

Now I love my home here in Oz but the one thing that I am super envious with my Wonderlandians in the United States about would be their White Snowy Christmas. As you know, it rarely snows here in Australia and our Christmas is usually  scorching hot (which means ice cream and the beach) which isn’t too bad, but one could wish for a change. 😉

So today, I’ll be sharing  my top 5 essential makeup products for a ‘Winter Angel’ makeup look which is  inspired by Michelle Phan’s Angel Baby Makeup Tutorial. This look is perfect for your Christmas parties or just as something fun to get you into the Christmas spirit! My idea of the Winter Angel makeup look is basically a glammed up version of your Kpop makeup with particular focus on glittery eyes (maybe not as glittery as Michelle’s, but hey you do you!), soft fluttery lashes and a soft baby pink lip!

So, what products do you need for your own interpretation of the Winter Angel makeup?

1. Rimmel London’s Good to Glow

Rimmel Good to Glow The Rainy wonderland

It’s all about that base! Dewy skin is still in so why not rock it? Try mixing some of Rimmel London’s Good to Glow into your favourite foundation to get an all even glow or apply Good to Glow on high points on your face for some definition.

Rimmel London’s Good to Glow is not too expensive and a little goes a long way – well worth the money!

Review: Here

2. E.L.F’s Tone Correcting Powder

ELF Tone Correcting Powder

You’ll need to set that foundation in place but why mattify a dewy finish that you’ve tried so hard to achieve? Consider a using a finishing powder that can give you that glow instead. Some great options would be NYX’s Radiant Finishing Powder (Brightening) or Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder. Alternatively, E.L.F’s Tone Correcting Powder would work just as great. The powder has four colour correcting shades, but when mixed together can also give you that healthy radiant finish! Another plus? The price, I got mine for $4 AUD!

3. Maybelline’s The Falsies Volume Express

Maybelline Falsies Mascara The Rainy Wonderland

In Michelle’s look her lashes are pretty natural looking, so this is where my Winter Angel look defers to her Angel Baby’s. I love the look of soft fluttery lashes, and nothing screams angel more than said lashes!

I like to use my Maybelline’s The Falsies Volume Express (waterproof) to attain long and fluttery lashes.  It’s important to not go in for too many coats with this mascara, espeically if you’re keen in keeping to that soft look since it can get a bit clumpy (but if clumpy is your thing then go crazy! 😀 ) .

4. Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Collection - The Rainy Wonderland

For those eyes.. well I love Michelle’s look but I’m not sure if you can buy her eyeshadow palettes anymore (I could be wrong)? A great alternative for me would be the glittery shades in Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow.  The shades Nectar, Luscious, Cobbler, Caramelized, Bless Her Heart and Bellini in particular are super glittery.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Collection

Whilst Bless Her Heart does appear quite greenish on the palette, however it’s a bit more greyish than green so it’s perfect for a little smoked eye look too.

5.  Lips

Lipsticks for Christmas The Rainy Wonderland

I love the baby pink Michelle used in her tutorial, a few pink lip sticks that I have that’s be great for this Christmas look  would be  Laniege’s Two Toned Lip bar in No.4, Maybelline’s More To Adore and Maybelline’s Mesmerizing Magenta. Mesmerizing Magenta is a tad purplish and strays off the baby soft lip concept, but it’s so pretty!

So there you go guys, my essentials for a Winter Angel makeup look. Obviously the look is inspired my Michelle Phan’s Angel Baby look so check out her youtube channel for some great makeup tips and ideas!

Enjoy your Christmas preparations Wonderlandians!

Until next time …

Disclaimer: Obviously Michelle Phan isn’t a paid model for me nor am I claiming to have used the products recommend to have created her look in the above photo. The image is simply an illustration of my inspiration for this Winter Angel makeup idea. 🙂

Nighttime Skincare Routine : Spring 2017

Rainy Wonderland Spring Skincare Routine

So I thought it’s about time that I share my Spring skincare routine with my fellow Wonderlandians! Spring in Oz is generally very dry and hot and so I try to layer my products rather than use very thick products. I’m someone who loves my skincare, so you’ll find that I have a few more steps than your average person! 😀

So lets dive into the routine!

1.Curel’s Makeup Cleansing Gel (Intensive Moisture Care)

How I use it: A small 2cm sized amount is all I usually need. This gel turns oily once I start to rub it into my dry face. Once all traces of makeup have been dissolved, I apply a little amount of water to get rid of the gel.

Properties: Makeup Remover.

2. Rosette Cleansing Paste (Ghassoul Bright)

How I use it: I use a small pea size amount on my  Foreo Luna Play facial cleansing device to  lather it up and help throughly clean off any residue makeup.

Properties: Second step cleanser.

3. Cosrx’s Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner

How I use it: A few spritz straight after cleansing.

Properties: Returns balance to the face after double cleansing.

4. Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C Framboos  Glycol Night Serum

How I use it: One pump to be spread evenly onto dry skin.

Properties: Chemical exfoliator to help  clear off dead skin cells and reduce appearances of pores and fine lines.

5.   SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

How I use it: I usually use about 3-4 drops into the palms then pat onto face.

Properties: Multiple – Anti-acne, anti-aging and helps attain that healthy glow!

6. SK-II RNA Power Eye Cream

How I use it: I use half a pea size amount for both eyes. I simply dot it underneath and above my eyelids then using my ring finger gently massage the product in.

Properties: Anti-aging eye care.

7. SK-II RNA Power Essence

How I use it: One pump full onto the palms then direct application to face and massage until absorbed.

Properties: Anti-aging.

8.   Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

How I use it: I usually use about 2 pumps to massage into the face.

Properties: Multiple- helps with hyper-pigmentation , anti-aging and moisturising.

9.  SK-II’s RNA Power Cream

How I use it: A small pea-sized amount is all that I required. I dot it all over my face then gently massage in a upward motion.

Properties: Moisturising and anti-aging.

Now that concludes my nighttime skincare routine! Nine steps does appear quite extensive, but it actually only takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. I’m someone who quite enjoy my skincare routine so I have no problem with nine steps! 😛

I hope you found it useful!

Until next time,

Review: Too Faced’s Born This Way Foundation

I’m not usually  one to sport the statement eye makeup or bold bleeding lips, generally my statement makeup focus was always on the skin. This may seem bland and boring but honestly it’s super difficult to do! I’ve always desired to have that perfect makeup canvas, skin that’s firm, bouncy,  dewy and importantly  natural non I-have- loads-of-pore-clogging-foundation on type look. However, I’ve very rarely been able to sport the look described above. Instead, I’ve sported every thing else ranging from cakey/streaky face to mismatch foundation (especially looking a tad too orange or pale for my skin tone).

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Review Ivory

It’s no secret that skincare plays a massive part in good skin, however selecting the right foundation can be just as pivotal (and possibly easier).  So that leads to this rather popular/ Instagram worthy foundation, Too Faced’s Born This Way Foundation. This foundation was highly raved about by one of my favourite youtuber, you may know her .. Liah Yoo. She loved this foundation so much she made a separate youtube video about it just to rave about it.  So I thought, ‘what the heck’ lets try this baby out!

Let the review begin !

So the fancy claims for Too Faced Born This Way Foundation (according to Sephora’s website):

✔ Full
✔ Medium

Skin type:
✔ Normal
✔ Dry
✔ Combination
✔ Oily

✔ Radiant

What it is:
An oil-free, medium-to-full coverage, natural-looking, radiant foundation.

What it does:
Get full, undetectable coverage with Born This Way Foundation. It’s infused coconut water to help replenish the skin’s moisture levels without over hydrating. It’s also enriched the resilient Alpine rose to brighten your skin’s appearance and promote elasticity, while hyaluronic acid provides long-lasting, skin-balancing hydration for a smoother, more youthful appearance.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This product is vegan and cruelty-free.

Tinnie’s Verdict:

Too Faced Born This Way Review

Coverage: Medium- Full. Depending on how much product you use and whether or not you build it up, you can get a medium to full coverage with this foundation. I don’t like building it up too much however, because it makes me look more cakey and I want to look like I was born this way.

Texture: Creamy. The texture of this foundation is very different to what I’m used to. It’s  a lot thicker in consistency and is more cream like than any other foundation I’ve used before. It’s thicker consistency almost means that it doesn’t look as natural as my other watery foundations.

Born this way shade Ivory

Finish: Dewy but… The finish of the foundation is nice and dewy, a gentle pat of powder is probably all you’ll need if the finish is a tad too much for you. The finish is also very natural (if you don’t use too much product) and the formula is bendable (especially with a beauty blender damp or wet). However, as you can see, if you have a lot of fine lines and/or dry skin then this foundation will definitely accentuate it and make it a lot worse.

Longevity: 4-6 hours. This foundation looks great on my skin until the 4 hour mark, after that the sebum on my skin (even if I pat it down with powder) starts to separate the foundation making me look like a oily mess.

Shades: ~24 shades. I actually counted the amount of shades they had on the Sephora website and it looks like there’s about 24 shades! There’s bound to be a shade for anyone who’s interested! 🙂 I got mine in the shade ‘Ivory’ – a very yellow toned shade which looks a tad too warm on my arm but it covers my redness really well on my face! 😉

Price: Medium-High. At $57 AUD, it’s not too expensive but nor is it exactly cheap. However, paying this amount for a product from brands like Too Faced isn’t too bad at all.

Packaging: Good. The bottle is frosted and made of glass, its a tad heavy and may not be as travel friendly as we’ll like. However it does make a nice addition to the vanity table!

Repurchase? Probably not. I like this foundation enough to use it on most days of the week, however I’m still on the hunt for ‘the one’. Until then, I avoid repurchasing the same foundations if possible (just to save myself time and money).

Overall, if you’re after a foundation that will even out your skin tone and boost your complexion then this is the one. However, if you have dry skin  (or dry patches) then best to avoid this foundation as it may not do you any favours 😦 . For my fellow oily skin brothers and sisters out there, beware that the sebum can actually separate the foundation so look out after the 4 hour mark. Otherwise, if you’re just needing something for a nice little evening or event then look no further!

I hope you enjoyed the review and until next time,

Review: Drunk Elephant’s Shaba Complex Eye Serum

Drunk Elephant's Shaba Complex Eye Serum Review

If eyes are the windows to the soul then your under-eye condition is the secret bearer of age! You’ve probably heard it all before, the first place to reveal your age is your under eyes. Your late night extravaganza, poor diet and hours staring at your electronic devices will one day, be bare to all on your face. So prevent, prevent, prevent! Obviously, diet and sun protection plays a big part in under-eye care, but today lets talk about the easier option – eye creams/serums.

I find that there’s a lot of misconception about eye creams/serums out there. When do you start eye cream? (the sooner the better I’d say). Do eye creams even work? (I sure hope so). What eye creams should we use (Ah, thats the fun my friends – the deep unknown!).

I’ve talked about my favourite eyes creams which I still stick by, but I’ve  ventured into some new space and wanted to try something a bit more affordable (although not all that much more). When it comes to eye creams, I need the real deal because wasted time is lost time! The wrinkle underneath your eyes once there will be there forever so be careful to prevent them in the first place. 😉

A brand that I’ve recently become obsessed with is Drunk Elephant, I’ve review their  C-Firma Day Serum and am still trailing their T.L.C Framboos out. Naturally, when I found that they had a eye cream too I had to test it out!

So lets dive in!

A silky eye serum formulated with a powerhouse of ingredients to tackle the major signs of aging under and around the eyes, such as the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, fatigue and dark circles, puffiness and age spots. The result is a more youthful, radiant appearance.

Shaba Complex™ Eye Serum contains potent doses of black tea ferment and copper peptides that work together to support a firmer looking appearance around the eyes, helping to slow down the signs aging before they appear. A unique combination of edelweiss stem cells and niacinamide helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. The powerful antioxidants in Co-Q10 help diminish signs of premature aging from environmental aggressors, while also helping to fade the appearance of age spots. You won’t believe your eyes.

Drunk Elephant's Shaba Complex Eye Serum

Packaging: Great! I love skincare products that comes in pumps for two reasons. Firstly it keeps the product hygienic and secondly it keeps the product stable as you are not exposing the rest of the unused product to oxygen or bacteria in the air. If only all eye creams come in pump bottles … 😦

Price: Expensive. This 15ml pump bottle costs $88 AUD which comes to  $5.86 per 1mL, umm not cheap!

Texture: Watery. Some would argue that this eye serum is creamy … NOPE – no it is absolutely watery and a pain to work with! The product itself doesn’t absorb into the skin and I find myself there just rubbing in stubborn cream for what seems like zonker years.

Scent? Nothing. My friends don’t expect aroma therapy with this product, but I’m not complaining. There really isn’t any need for your eye cream to smell like a Bali spa retreat.

Convenience: Great. The fact that it comes in a pump bottle makes it so easy to use, no fiddling with spatulas or lids.

Repurchase? Nope. I’ve not noticed anything with this eye serum. Unlike with the SK-II and SU:M 37 eye creams, this one did not leave my undereye area feeling mositurised or plumped at all!

Overall, I can’t wait until I finish off this eye cream. Another disappointing product for me and I certainly won’t recommend it unless you’ve got a plenty of money to spare. The eye cream itself is nothing to rave about and I feel like other eye creams, especially Kiehl’s Avacado Eye Treatment is superior in efficacy and price!

I hope you enjoyed the post!

Until next time,

Laneige’s Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneige's Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask Review - The Rainy Wonderland

Always the one to be late on new trends and hypes, I’ve finally whipped out my Laneige’s Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask to see for myself what the fuss was about. The  Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask was something that sent the internet into a bit of a buzz late last year (or earlier this year? ), reviews and youtube videos alike were raving  about it’s potential to transform dry peeling lips into a smooth luscious pout!  A luscious pout sounds nice for Christmas don’t you think?

(BTW: I didn’t actually buy mine, no, I stole it from my younger sister – who in the heat of the moment bought a value pack if 4 at Singapore’s Changi Airport – I’m sure she doesn’t mind! 😉 )

Laneige's Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask Review - Packaging an

If you’re interested to know the state of my lips then continue on, but if you’ll much prefer to skip to the product review then I suggest you skip this paragraph :). So, lips … well mine are dry not very dry per se but not exactly a nice canvas for liquid lip sticks. My sister’s pout? Well, a lot drier with lots of peeling and cracks (you’ll see the importance of this information later).

*Image from Laniege SG’s Website

The New Lip Sleeping Mask gently melts dead skin cells making lips feel smooth and elastic the next morning.
Experience smooth firming lip night care with the new lip sleeping pack, available in berry, grapefruit, apple lime, and vanilla scents.

Laneige has recently released three additional scents to the original berry flavour, which is the one that I’ve got.

So lets get into this review and see what it does for my dehydrated pout!

Laneige's Special Care Lip Sleeping Mask Review - The Rainywonderland

Packaging: Cute! The lip mask comes in a nice and sturdy 20g jar with a pink spatula. The jar itself does not fell cheap or flimsy but is light weight and sturdy enough. Perfect for traveling.

Price. High. For 20g of product you’re looking at ~ $37-$40 AUD. Although to be fair, one jar will last you a pretty long time!

Scent? Sweet Strawberries. There is a nice fresh and sweet strawberry scent but nothing too over powering and it fades away quickly. If you’re someone who hates scents in your products then rest assure that this won’t bother you all night. If on the contrary you LOVE scented products then you might need to sniff the jar for a while longer!

Convenience: Good. The spatula is nice and flexible allow application of the product onto your lips to be a breeze ~

Texture. Buttery. The best way to explain the texture of this product would be that it’s very butter-like. Solid to the touch yet melts easily when you run your finger or spatula along it.

Repurchase? No way in a million years! This product was simply a waste of time and money for me. Despite it working great for other reviewers , it did absolutely nothing for my lips. In fact, it appears to have dried it out further. 😞 The mask itself was super oily and can smudge (since I toss and turn when I sleep) to the outer perimeter of my lips causing white heads and break out around the area. For my sister’s lips, well it does absolutely nothing at all. As a matter of fact, she couldn’t even finish her sample size and is dying to get rid of her stash.

Claims: Exaggerated. I can’t see how this slippery lubricating lip-gloss type thing can melt off anything. My lips certainly do not feel smooth or elastic in the mornings.

Overall, I was left bitterly disappointed. I very desperately wanted a Laneige product to work on me (.. lips and skin like Song Eye Kyo? Yes please!) but nope, again Laneige has let me down.  I’m rather surprised that others have liked the products so much. I’m trying to use up my 20g jar not but that will be difficult, wish me luck!
